Intel 440LX motherboard: identifying this Slot 1 board

This motherboard was first documented in the Collier Computers collection in January 2024. Its archived label, “INTEL 82440LX,” describes the chipset family; it does not establish that Intel manufactured this particular board.

What the recovered manual tells us

The five-page document is headed FYI-82440LX ATX / AGP M/B. It lists Pentium II processors from 233 to 333 MHz, three 168-pin DIMM sockets, one AGP slot, four PCI slots, and three ISA slots. Its CPU index pairs the listed processors with a 66 MHz bus.

Those are the specifications of the board described in that document. The old article's blanket claim of support up to 450 MHz was too broad. A shared Slot 1 connector does not establish electrical, firmware, or bus-speed compatibility.

Intel introduced the 440LX platform in August 1997 with AGP and SDRAM support. Several different motherboard designs used it, so the board layout and revision still matter. Intel's original 440LX announcement provides the platform context.

Before working on this board

Compare the physical board with the manual's layout, connector labels, and jumper locations. Read the diagrams themselves: extracted text can lose the positions that distinguish one jumper setting from another.

The archive also contained a BIOS file and a chipset-driver package. Their presence beside this article does not prove they match every 440LX board. They have been preserved separately; this write-up makes no new flashing or driver-installation claim.
