SMC SMC1255TX: a PCI Fast Ethernet card from the collection

The SMC SMC1255TX is the 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet adapter documented in the January 2024 Collier Computers collection. Its recovered gallery includes the board, rear network connector, and model label.

A component for a compatible older system

This is a conventional PCI expansion card. It should not be described as compatible with “most modern computers” simply because it provides Ethernet. A suitable expansion slot, the exact hardware revision, and operating-system driver support all need to line up.

The original article also promoted bundled firewall and packet-inspection utilities. Those historical software references have been removed from the recommendation: their presence in an old package does not establish present-day suitability.

Preserved driver material

The archive SMC1255TX_PF.zip was recovered from the original download directory and has a recorded checksum. That preserves the file that accompanied the article; it does not establish that the package has been tested on a particular restored PC.

Before using a driver, compare its own hardware identifiers and supported systems with the actual card. No installer was run during this recovery, and this page does not claim a measured throughput, Wake-on-LAN test, or newly verified OS compatibility result.
